Tomas de Aquino Sigrist iniciou sua carreira como pintor naturalista em 1986. No decorrer destes anos desenvolveu diversas técnicas de pintura, atingindo um estilo próprio de expressão para representar as aves do Brasil, além de outros elementos da fauna e flora brasileiras, trabalho para o qual desenvolve pesquisas no campo, nos museus e nas bibliotecas. Ilustrou uma monografia das Aves de São Paulo, junto ao Prof. Dr. Edwin O'Neil Willis da UNESP, Rio Claro. Realizou ilustrações para a Revista Bird Life International e inúmeras outras publicações, além de participar como desenhista em vários projetos ecológicos de empresas no Brasil. Também é de sua autoria as capas dos CDs ( Cantos de Aves do Brasil e Guia Sonoro Neotropical ) de autoria do Prof. Dr. Jacques Vielliard da Unicamp e, atualmente, vem trabalhando na composição de um CDROM, Aves da Mata Atlântica., de autoria do mesmo professor. Realizou diversas exposições em São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro e Espírito Santo e inúmeros de seus trabalhos pertencem ao acervo de coleções particulares.
Since 1986, Tomas
Sigrist has painted bird species of the Atlantic Rain Forest in the southeast of Brazil
as well as birds of Pantanal, in the southwest of Mato Grosso State. He tries to
reproduce the birds in their natural behavior, he uses field sketches from his bird
watching work that captures the typical posture of each bird species and
frequently he
goes to the Natural History Museum to learn about the plumage of their serial bird
skins. Sigrist works with acrylic materials and he also works with carbon drawing pencil
sketches and he has his own style to represent the fauna and flora from Brazil. He
illustrated the São Paulo Bird Guide organized by Dr. Edwin O'Neill Willis of the State
University of Rio Claro - UNESP. Sigrist has also contributed illustrations for Bird Life
International magazine, Revue des Oiseaux Exotiques, Atualidades Ornitológicas and other
publications like the covers of CDs - Sound Guide of Brazilian and Songs of Brazilian
Birds - produced by Dr. Jacques Vielliard of the State University of Campinas - UNICAMP.
At the moment he is engaged in a project to produce a CDROM about Birds of the Atlantic
Rain Forest, to be organized by Dr. Jacques Vielliard. Sigrist is always engaged in
ecological projects of Brazilian and multinational companies and he has presented his
artwork in galleries of Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Espírito Santo and Belo Horizonte.
Several of his paintings are in private collections. He has been often invited to talk
about his artwork in ornithological and ecological congresses and seminars.
